Last week, Local 459 leaders met with United States Congress Representative, Elissa Slotkin, to discuss safety and staffing concerns affecting McLaren Greater Lansing. Representative Slotkin has been a supporter of the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act, and a strong advocate for healthcare workers in the state of Michigan. During the meeting, she demonstrated a deep understanding of the issues that healthcare workers across the nation, and across mid-Michigan, are facing. RN Chief Steward, Kristen Silvers, and POST Chief Steward, Lois Davis-Thomas, detailed the particular difficulties that workers at McLaren Greater Lansing must overcome on a daily basis. Local 459 emphasized that it is more important than ever for hospitals to engage in collaborative relationships with their unions, in order to tackle the ongoing challenges of the pandemic.”
